  5.      What's new in this version:
  6.          - fix a reported problem of CD Audio being muted.
  7.  
  8.      Before you install OPTi 930 Device Driver make sure that you have
  9.      installed OS/2 WARP Version 3.00 Revision 8.162. Enter "VER /R" from
  10.      an OS/2 command prompt to verify.
  11.  
  12.      This document describes the means for setting up your Sound Card for
  13.      proper operation under the OS/2 operating system environment. If you
  14.      already have OS/2 installed, please read PART 1; if not, please
  15.      proceed to PART 2 of this document. PART 3 of this document describes
  16.      how to connect your existing or new CD-ROM drive to your Sound Card
  17.      and provides a list of the CD-ROM models that are supported. PART 4
  18.      describes the parameter options for the Sound Card setup program
  19.      MAD16.ADD. PART 5 describes how to reconfigure your Sound Card settings
  20.      at a later time. PART 6 lists some known problems detected with this
  21.      current release; and PART 7 describes a brief trouble-shooting session 
  22.      for problems that may be encountered during and after the installation 
  23.      of the Sound Card device driver.

  47.         Installing the Sound Card device driver:
  48.  
  49.         1. Ensure that your Sound Card has been properly installed and power
  50.            on your system and wait for the OS/2 Desktop to appear.
  51.         
  52.         2. From your OS/2 Desktop, open (double click) the OS/2 System folder
  53.            and then open the Command Prompts folder.
  54.         
  55.         3. Open either the OS/2 Window icon or the OS/2 Full Screen icon to
  56.            start an OS/2 command prompt session.
  57.         
  58.         4. Check if a copy of MAD16.ADD existed in root directory by typing
  59.            "dir \MAD16.ADD". Remove the old MAD16.ADD by typing "del \MAD16.ADD"
  60.            if it existed.
  61.         
  62.         5. Enter the another command "attrib -r \os2\boot\clock01.sys".
  63.         
  64.         6. Insert device driver diskette into your floppy disk drive.
  65.         
  66.         7. Type "A:MINSTALL" and ENTER.
  67.         
  68.         8. MINSTALL will display 3 options to install - OPTi 930 WAVE OS/2
  69.            Driver, OPTi OPL3 Driver and OPTi Windows/OS2 Driver. Select only
  70.            1st and 2nd(WAVE and OPL3) to install.
  71.  
  72.         9. Type "EXIT" and ENTER to return to OS/2 Desktop.
  73.              
  74.         10. Reboot OS/2.

  77. PART 2  - OS/2 not installed
  78.  
  79.         OS/2 Diskette Installation:
  80.  
  81.         1. Install OS/2 and proceed to PART 1 to complete the installation of device driver
  82.         for your Sound Card.

  85.         OS/2 CD-ROM Installation:
  86.  
  87.         If you intend to connect a CD-ROM to the CD-ROM interface of your
  88.         sound card and use it for your OS/2 Warp installation, please follow
  89.         the steps below. If not, install your CD-ROM with the interface card
  90.         supplied by your CD-ROM manufacturer and proceed to install OS/2 Warp,
  91.         after your installation, proceed to PART 1 of this document to
  92.         complete the device driver for your Sound Card.
  93.  
  94.         1. In the OS/2 Warp CD-ROM installation package, you will find two (2)
  95.            "kicker" diskettes - a) Installation Diskette for CD-ROM, and
  96.                                 b) Diskette for CD-ROM (Disk 1).
  97.  
  98.         2. Copy the program MAD16.ADD located in your Sound Card device driver
  99.            diskette to the OS/2 Warp "kicker" diskette labeled "Diskette for
  100.            CD-ROM (Disk 1)".
  101.  
  102.         3. EDIT config.sys to add the following line immediately before the
  103.            LIBPATH= statement:
  104.

  127.      4. Install OS/2 Warp (be sure to install multimedia software support)
  128.  
  129.            *note* The OPTi 930 Audio card is detected by OS/2 install
  130.                   as a SB Pro - Remove this by clicking on Multimedia from
  131.                   the System Configuration menu and select remove from the
  132.                   Device Selections and Settings menu.

  134.      5. Follow OPTi MAD16 Audio Device Driver for OS/2 Procedure part 1 above.

  138. PART 3 - CD-ROM Drive Interface
  139.  
  140.         Interfacing a CD-ROM drive to your Sound Card:
  141.  
  142.         To interface/connect your new or existing CD-ROM drive to your
  143.         sound card, please follow the simple steps below.
  144.  
  145.         If you are interfacing an existing CD-ROM drive to your sound card,
  146.         you only need to follow steps 1 and 2 below since you should already
  147.         have your existing CD-ROM driver setup in your CONFIG.SYS file.
  148.         However, if your are interfacing a new CD-ROM drive, you will need
  149.         to follow all 3 steps below; in which case, it is recommended that
  150.         your perform step 1 first.

  153.         1. Hardware setup
  154.  
  155.            To connect your CD-ROM drive to your sound card, you will need
  156.            to setup the correct data connector cable from your CD-ROM to
  157.            your sound card. Please refer to your sound card installation
  158.            manual for more details.

  161.         2. Modifying/Setting the MAD16.ADD setup program
  162.  
  163.            To interface your new or existing CD-ROM drive to your Sound Card,
  164.            use an editor to open the CONFIG.SYS file for editing and locate
  165.            the line "BASEDEV=MAD16.ADD..."  This line should be at the first
  166.            line of the file. Insert the following "CDTYPE:" option into the
  167.            line and when completed, it should read:
  168.  
  169.            BASEDEV=MAD16.ADD CDTYPE:X CDBASE:XXX CDIRQ:X
  170.  
  171.            where <model> is the CD-ROM model denoted by the following characters:
  172.                        S       - stands for SONY
  173.                        M       - stands for Mitsumi
  174.                        P       - stands for Panasonic
  175.                        I       - stands for IDE (secondary)
  176.  
  177.            For example, the following enables the interface for a SONY IDE CD-ROM.

  179.            BASEDEV=MAD16.ADD CDTYPE:I CDBASE:170 
  180.  
  181.            If the above MAD16.ADD line is not located, proceed to PART 1 of
  182.            this document for details on installing the Sound Card setup program.
  183.  
  184.            Save the file and proceed to install the CD-ROM driver if needed.

  187.         3. Installing the CD-ROM driver
  188.  
  189.            Open the Selective Install program located in the System Setup
  190.            folder and click on the icon next to the "CD-ROM Device Support"
  191.            entry.  A window with the list of OS/2 supported CD-ROM drivers
  192.            will appear. Select (click on) the CD-ROM driver name belonging
  193.            to your CD-ROM model and click on OK to confirm. Click on OK to
  194.            start your CD-ROM driver installation.
  195.  
  196.            If you have already successfully connected your CD-ROM drive
  197.            to your sound card as detailed in your installation manual, you
  198.            may shut down OS/2 and reboot your system for the changes to
  199.            take effect. If not, please proceed to connect your CD-ROM drive
  200.            to your sound card after shutting down OS/2 and switching off
  201.            your system.

  231.            that the drive is compatible with any of the above MAKE and MODELs.
  232.            Contact the CD-ROM manufacturer for details on the compatibility of
  233.            your drive. If your drive is compatible, the drive may be specified
  234.            as the appropriate TYPE in the CDTYPE option.

  238. PART 4 - Options for MAD16.ADD Sound Card Setup Program
  239.  
  240.         The following lists the available options for the MAD16.ADD
  241.         sound card setup program.
  242.  
  243.         MODE:     wss, sb            (default Windows Sound System)
  244.         BASE:     220, 240           (for Sound Blaster mode, default 220)
  245.                   530, E80, F40, 604 (for Windows Sound System mode, default 530)
  246.                   Choosing 530 or E80 for WSS gives 220 for Sound Blaster.
  247.                   Choosing 604 or F40 for WSS gives 240 for Sound Blaster.
  248.                   E80 and F40 are valid only with version 930 of the OPTi part.
  249.         
  250.         CDTYPE:   None, Sony31A, Panasonic, Mitsumi, IDE (default None)
  251.                   One character is adequate (e.g. CDTYPE:S)

  279. PART 5 - How to Reconfig the Hardware Settings
  280.  
  281.         Type "c:\sound\minstall" and enter, then follow the directions from
  282.         Part 1, step 8.  Directory "SOUND16" was created in root directoy during
  283.         the first installation process.  It contains the same files as the 
  284.         installation disk.

  288. PART 6 - Known Problems
  289.  
  290.         1. WINOS2 support is coming soon.

  293. PART 7 - Brief Trouble-Shooting Session
  294.  
  295.         Problem:  OS/2 cannot detect your sound card and/or CD-ROM
  296.         Solution: Ensure that the BASEDEV=MAD16.ADD... line is located  
  297.                   immediately before the LIBPATH= statement:
  298.  
  299.         Problem:  No startup sound when starting OS/2
  300.         Solution: Check if System Sound is enabled
  301.  
  302.         Problem:  Sounds keep repeating
  303.         Solution: This is due to an interrupt conflict on your system. To
  304.                   use a different interrupt selection, open the CONFIG.SYS
  305.                   file for editing and change the SBIRQ option in the
  306.                   MAD16.ADD line to a different interrupt. 
  307.  
  308.         Problem:  DOS games do not work under OS/2 DOS session
  309.         Solution: Run OS/2 Add Programs located in the System Setup folder
  310.                   to ask OS/2 to add the set of DOS games on your system.
  311.                   This allows OS/2 to setup the DOS session settings best
  312.                   suited for your individual games such as DOOM.
  313.  
  314.                   If the DOS game still does not run, this may be due to
  315.                   the incompatibility of the game with OS/2. Consult the
  316.                   OS/2 newsgroup - comp.os.os2.games on the internet for
  317.                   FAQs relating to this subject, or the FTP site -
  318.                   hobbes.nmsu.edu.
  319.  
  320.         Problem:  IDE CD-ROM does not work
  321.         Solution: Ensure that the IDE CD-ROM jumper is closed on your sound
  322.                   card. Consult your sound card manual for details.
  323.         
  324.         Problem:  Compact Disc player does not generate sound.
  325.         Solution: Go to Digital Audio. Under OPTIONS, select Monitor input.
  326.         
  327.         Problem:  The CD ROM device drivers for PANASONIC CR 562/563 and
  328.                   IDE cdrom drives that ship with OS/2 WARP for Windows,
  329.                   do not work. 
  330.         Solution: The drivers that ship with OS/2 WARP "FullPack" fix this 
  331.                   problem.
  332.         
  333.         Problem:  MINSTALL did not add the "BASEDEV=MAD16.ADD.." statement
  334.                   to config.sys.
  335.         Solution: Reduce the length "LIBPATH=.." statement in config.sys to
  336.                   255 characters or less.
